Yep! That inert gas you find on the table of elements – Neon – is one of the most fun and popular themes available on ScreenKit.

Neon colours have been around for a long time, with the gas used to light up cheesy billboard and store signs as early as a century ago, and beginning to get campy in the ’50s and ’60s to influencing the 1980s in many ways, especially in fashion, makeup and even industrial design.

For this new decade (the 2020s), Neon shows no signs of stopping, making a comeback in a big way.
Neon colours are totally on point now, used all over the internet, influencing the fashion industry with big brands making striking neon pieces, and freely used in branding, marketing and even interior designs the world over.

Neon colours are LOUD. When you use them, you’re sure to draw attention to yourself.
Our eyes naturally gravitate towards it, making it difficult to look away and even harder to miss altogether.

There are many unique aspects to this aesthetic, but one that stands out the most is that it literally glows. The colours aren’t flat like regular colours; instead, it seems as if they’re popping out of the screen or wherever you find them.

Examples of some modern-day aesthetics would be Vaporwave, Synthwave, Cyberpunk, and TV shows such as Stranger Things.

Alternatively, you can think of the Las Vegas strip with their casinos and billboards, or even the night club scene in your area (well, pre-Pandemic anyway).
Regardless, neon lights are heavily associated with nightlife and clubbing – so much that you can practically feel the bass drop and everyone dancing to the beat, just by staring at the colours.

Lastly, at the end of the spectrum, you can create a futuristic / sci-fi fantasy look using the sleek and cooler coloured neon lights – such as blue and whites.

Think of Tron, Robocop, and Star Trek and their use of neon lights to make everything seem light-years in the future (as opposed to a sound stage and dull, everyday reality).

There are many combinations you can create with neon colours.
Use it as the central theme of your aesthetic or as an accent to make the main visual pop out with extra shine.
